The Sinhala Association of Queensland proudly presented Saralanga 2023, its flagship cultural showcase, on 30 September 2023 at the St John’s Anglican College Auditorium, Forest Lake. The event brought together the Sri Lankan community and the wider Queensland multicultural community for an unforgettable evening celebrating traditional arts, dance, and cultural heritage.
Saralanga 2023 featured 22 vibrant stage performances performed by 266 talented performers, representing a wide range of Sri Lankan cultural traditions. The show highlighted the richness and diversity of Sri Lanka’s artistic heritage while demonstrating how these traditions continue to thrive within the Sri Lankan community in Australia.
A special highlight of the 2023 production was the emergence of a new generation of choreographers, including Yashani and Nishani Algama, Sahani Pathiranage, Nemi De Silva, Nimna Unantena, and Shenul Kottegoda. Their creative contributions reflected the successful transmission of cultural knowledge to younger generations growing up in Australia, ensuring that Sri Lankan traditions remain vibrant and relevant for years to come.
The event was honoured by the presence of representatives from Federal, State, and Local Government, reinforcing the importance of cultural events that strengthen multicultural connections within Queensland.
Saralanga 2023 was made possible with the generous support of Commonwealth Bank of Australia as the Main Sponsor, alongside valued community sponsors and partners.
The Sinhala Association of Queensland extends its heartfelt gratitude to the performers, choreographers, parents, teachers, volunteers, and supporters whose dedication and hard work made Saralanga 2023 a truly memorable cultural celebration.
